3) "NELUM KAVI" (නෙලුම් කවි)

Re planting of tender paddy plants

When the time arrives to remove excess tender paddy plants or to remove weeds ,a group of women get together to do that task.Above function is oftenly done by women.When the work is tuff & also to relief from fatigue,they sing songs known as "Nelum kavi".
                 There are several kind of "Nelum kavi" distributed in various parts of the country. they are "Nelum sindu",Pota kavi", & "Nelum osa".
                  "Nelum osa" is started by singing "Namaskaara gee",then consequently "Goyam osa","Pota kavi",& "Nelum sindu" are sung.
    In many occasions "Goyam osa" consisted with "Pirith osa,"Horanaa","Gangulali","Nalaa", and "Kinduru"singings.Occasionally a traditional percussion "Bummadiya" and "Athminiya" had been used.
